Blue Mountains U14’s girls and boys team competed in the NSW U14 State Championships held in Taree on the weekend of 29/30 January 2005..
The Girls team consisted of Beth Salmon, Caitlin Berrell, Courtney Vreeken, Alaine Watson, Larrissa Moore, Samantha Thomas, Alexandra Kennedy, Kristy Stanton, Aleasha Vreeken and Rebekah Henderson. Coach, Eddie Vreeken was very proud of the girls efforts – “they improved 200% on last years efforts and it gives us a lot of hope for next year”. The Blueys girls played 6 games against some very well drilled sides and came away with one win and a draw. Samantha Thomas, Aleasha Vreeken, Kristy Stanton and Rebekah Henderson scored goals . Beth Salmon played fantastic in goals all weekend (even though this is not the position she usually plays). Our goal scorers Aleasha, Kristy, Samantha , Rebecca played great but the unluckiest team players Alaine Watson and Alexandra Kennedy who both had plenty of shots which kept hitting the goal posts but they didn't stop trying.. Someone asked Coach Eddie Vreeken who was the best player in the team and he replied .....they were all the BEST ,, it was a great team effort and all girls got on great so that made it very easy for Eddie & Bronwyn to keep them motivated...

The Boys team consisted of Tom Patfield, Tim Simpson, Sam Balhause, Jake Burton, Sam Ruttley, Jack Richardson, Pat Richardson, Patrick Berrrell, Dylan Galea and Troy Morgan. The boys had a very young and small in size team so they found it very hard to contain the opposition who were much bigger and more experienced. The boys played 6 games but unfortunately did not manage a win. Goals were scored by Troy Morgan, Jake Burton, Sam Ballhause and Tim Simpson. Coach Trevor Hamilton said “the boys played so well together as a team and came away from the tournament with a lot more knowledge of the game, it was a great learning experience for all involved.”

All players should be extremely proud of their efforts, considering Blue Mountains Water polo is such a young and developing club and the juniors have to travel to St Marys for training. The success of our juniors goes to show that all the hard work is now paying off. Special thanks to Eddie Vreeken, senior players and parents for all their efforts in developing these and all other junior players.
